“Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.” Morticia Addams

Hi, I’m Kirsten, welcome to my first blog. As a Gen X woman on the cusp of turning 50 (eek!) I’m a little late to the game. I currently reside in Denver, CO, but I’ve also lived in Albuquerque, NM, Trustenik, a little village in Bulgaria, Austin, TX, and Shanghai China. My husband, Scott and I are currently in the process of trying to immigrate to Hungary (more on that later).

To make a living I’ve done everything from selling tires, to working for a famous iFruit company, to teaching English overseas, to being a public servant. Currently I’m lucky enough to be able to pursue my lifelong dream of being a writer. I’m in the middle of writing an international crime novel and since I keep getting struck down by writer’s block I figured, hey, why not start a blog!

In this blog I’ll write about my travels locally, around the US, and abroad, along with some of my favorite local haunts. I’m a huge fan of Halloween which I inherited from my Mom who did her best to terrorize my brother and I year round in the most loving way possible. I’m sure she has something to do with my love of all things spooky, dark, and twisted. My birthday is 10 days before Halloween and most years she threw themed parties with costumes, cold spaghetti for brains, and peeled grape eyeballs.

Scott and I manage to find horror/dark heavy metal themed bars everywhere we go: Kripta Söröző (The Crypt Bar) in Budapest, TRVE Brewing Company here in Denver. This also leaks into many of my travel plans which I’ll include here; from a recent visit to LA’s Museum of Death to seeing Lenin’s Tomb in St. Petersburg when I was a teenager. Fortunately, Scott shares my love of Halloween, haunted bars, and horror movies which is one of the reasons we get along so well. We’ve run out of space for any more Halloween decorations both inside and outside of our house, but the neighbor kids seem to love it.

Lastly, I don’t have any children, but I do have a 17ish year old cat, Lemmy named after Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. He will make an appearance here from time to time.
